STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

BIRDD pursues a set of interrelated strategic objectives that guide its research, policy engagement, civic education, and leadership development activities. These objectives reflect the Institute’s commitment to democratic governance, rural transformation, cultural understanding, and inclusive development, and are framed under the acronym IMPACT to signify sustainable societal impact.

BIRDD’s work is guided by seven interlinked strategic priorities:

To advance historically grounded and culturally informed approaches to governance and development by integrating indigenous knowledge systems, cultural values, and social institutions with contemporary policy and governance frameworks.

To support inclusive rural development through research, policy analysis, and dialogue focused on education, local enterprise, innovation, and institutional capacity-building in underserved communities.

To advance gender equity, youth empowerment, and poverty reduction by informing inclusive economic policies, livelihood strategies, and financial literacy initiatives that strengthen community resilience.

To strengthen democratic participation and ethical leadership grounded in democratic norms, accountability, and public service values-based leadership by promoting civic literacy, ethical public service, and responsible citizenship, particularly among youth and community leaders.

To contribute to environmentally responsible and climate-aware development by supporting policy dialogue and research on sustainable land use, natural resource governance, and climate resilience in rural contexts.

To promote critical thinking, civic responsibility, and intellectual leadership through education, public dialogue, and recognition of excellence in scholarship and public service
