Bafuo Kwabena Gyima Osei-Bonsu is a respected legal practitioner, statesman, and traditional leader with decades of service to Ghana. He, together with his colleague member of Parliament in the Second Republic of Ghana (1969-1972) – President J A Kufuor, serve on the BIRDD Council of Patrons.
Bafuo began his public career under the National Liberation Council as Commissioner of Information. Under the Second Republic, he served as Ministerial Secretary for National Security and later as Minister of State and Chief of State Protocol where he was noted for integrity, protocol diplomacy, and principled leadership.
Bafuo has since held several key roles, including Board Chairman of Ghana Commercial Bank and member of the New Patriotic Party’s National Council of Elders. As Tufuhene of the Asante Mampong Traditional Area, he serves as a royal advisor and cultural custodian.
Bafuo Osei-Bonsu studied law at Leeds University in the United Kingdom, where he obtained his LLB (Hons). He went on to train professionally at the Inns of Court School of Law in London and was subsequently called to the English Bar, qualifying as a Barrister-at-Law.
He has held several key national roles, including Board Chairman of Ghana Commercial Bank and member of the National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). As Tufuhene of the Asante Mampong Traditional Area, he serves as a royal advisor, championing cultural heritage, justice, and media freedom.
His enduring legacy is one of principled leadership, national service, and a lifelong dedication to Ghana’s democratic and cultural advancement.
